CONcISE Kick off: the first step towards revolutionalising biomedical imagining devices

The CONcISE project kick-off meeting was held at Politecnico di Milano in Milan, Italy on February 9th and 10th, 2023. The project is funded within the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) of the European Union and brings together 8 beneficiaries and 4 associated partners from 8 European countries.

The CONcISE project gathers partners with an interdisciplinary background ranging from mathematics and physics to medicine and laser engineering, with the aim to overcome current limitations of biomedical imaging. Current approaches focus on maximising the acquired data, regardless of its quality, unavoidably leading to a large amount of data to manage, transfer, and analyse, thus creating data bottlenecks and gaps in measurements.

During the kick-off meeting, under the lead of the CONcISE coordinator Dr. Andrea Farina (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR)), project partners introduced themselves and provided an outline of their contributions to the project.

Additionally, they also discussed and laid down a strategy for the recruitment of Doctoral Candidates who will work on individual PhD projects within the CONcISE network. Finally, partners had the chance to visit CNR and Politecnico di Milano’s experimental optics laboratory to see the equipment and technology that some of the DCs will use and further develop during their research projects.

Although the project is still in its early stages, the kick-off meeting was an important step in bringing the partners together, sharing ideas, and setting out a clear plan for its implementation. Ultimately, CONcISE is set to make a significant impact on the field of biomedical imaging and ultimately benefit patients around the world.
