DC7 – Development of an adaptive optics module using Multi actuator adaptive Lenses and wavefront sensor optimisation algorithms for non-linear microscopy
Lindsey holds a bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering completed in 2016 from the University of Rochester, focusing primarily on lens design. From 2013-2016, she interned at the US Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), working in optical communications and satellite laser ranging. She returned to NRL in 2016. NRL provided her hands-on experience with adaptive optics and picosecond lasers, along with team-based collaboration to solve complex scientific problems. Concurrently, she worked and obtained her master’s in Electrical Engineering in 2021 from Johns Hopkins University. She primarily focused her master’s on courses relating to photonics.
Throughout all of her work and studies, she found an interest in adaptive optics and the myriad of applications. Joining CONCISE allows her to apply her enthusiasm for adaptive optics to the world of microscopy.
“I am excited about adaptive optics and applying them to innovative technologies advancing medical imaging.” Lindsey Willstatter (DC8)
Lindsey’s PhD programme focuses on the design of an adaptive optics module for nonlinear microscopy, which utilises Multi Actuator Adaptive Lenses and leverages wavefront sensor optimisation algorithms to improve imaging quality. The programme also aims to integrate this adaptive optics module into a nonlinear microscope, assess its performance, and conduct tests with biological samples, aiming to significantly enhance the resolution and clarity of images obtained from complex biological systems. Lindsey is carrying out her research at the National Research Centre (CNR) in Italy. During her employment, three secondments have been planned.
