The CONcISE project successfully organised its 5th Topical School from 9 to 11 April 2026 in Strasbourg, France, hosted at the ICube Laboratory. The hybrid event brought together doctoral candidates, researchers and experts to explore the clinical translation of medical devices, combining scientific excellence with practical insights from a leading European MedTech ecosystem.
Strasbourg provided a unique setting for the Topical School, offering the DCs direct exposure to a highly integrated innovation environment. Participants visited major research and innovation facilities, including ICube laboratories, the IPB site, and IRCAD, gaining first-hand insights into how multidisciplinary collaboration accelerates medical innovation. The proximity between academic research, clinical expertise and startup support structures illustrated the strength of Strasbourg as a European hub for healthtech innovation.
The scientific programme covered key aspects of medical device development and translation. Topics included intellectual property management and technology transfer, the current state of image-guided surgery, and the ethical and legal frameworks surrounding animal testing. Additional sessions highlighted regional innovation ecosystems and pathways to startup creation, with a dedicated focus on Strasbourg’s role as a gateway for healthtech and life sciences innovation.
Speakers from academia, industry and innovation organisations provided complementary perspectives, ensuring a balanced approach between scientific rigour and real-world application. The programme emphasised not only technological advancement but also regulatory, ethical and commercial considerations essential for successful clinical translation.
Beyond the formal sessions, the Topical School facilitated active networking and collaboration among participants. Social events, including consortium and thematic dinners, as well as dedicated discussion sessions, created opportunities for knowledge exchange and future cooperation. The optional third day further encouraged informal interaction through a city tour and open collaboration meetings.
The CONcISE consortium would like to thank the Université de Strasbourg for its excellent organisation and hosting of this successful event.
